Sonnenberg Season Starts Sunday!

We at Bella Rose B&B are always thrilled when Sonnenberg Gardens and 40-room Victorian Mansion opens for the season, which is does on Sunday, May 1.  Built in 1887, it offers history buffs a glimpse of what life was like in the late nineteenth century with a Queen Anne-style mansion and nine formal preserved gardens in this beautiful estate.  Nestled in Canandaigua, NY, in the picturesque Finger Lakes region, Sonnenberg Gardens is a New York State Historic Park offering one of the few remaining estates in the U.S. with this type of architecture and landscaping. Known for its distinctive period architecture, statuary, formal gardens, fountains and unique garden structures, Sonnenberg is a "must-visit" stop among many of your Finger Lakes adventures. So, plan your visit now, and if you are a rose lover, come in mid-June when hundreds of roses are in bloom.  And to make your visit complete, we are just 1/2 mile away through Canandaigua's historic district. Bella Rose B&B -- a Victorian beauty is its own right -- is the perfect place to relax, rest and recharge for everything Finger Lakes, including touring historic Sonnenberg!

New Recipe again at Bella Rose B&B....

For those "foodies" following our Bella Rose blog for newly tested recipes, this one's for you. As promised a few weeks ago, this week hubby and I tried "Baby Dutch Babies", a name you gotta love. Our crude attempt at pictures doesn't do it justice, but we thought it was another winner to be added to the 2011 menu. Truth be told, I didn't exactly do it according to directions and still liked it - a lot! I must be getting braver in my old age! Modifications included adding a little cinnamon and vanilla to the "baby batter" and doing sauteed apples with dried cranberries as the fruit. Put it all on a plate puddled with warm NYS maple syrup and a couple of pork sausage patties on the side, and yes, it tasted great on a cold Spring morning. You know what they say about those blind squirrels, right? Anyway, be looking for it if you come, albeit changed up, of course! So, what shall we do next? Souffles, maybe....

Top Performers in Concert at CMAC in Canandaigua

Wow, does 2011 promise to be a great year for concert goers of all kinds, or what?! CMAC in beautiful, historic Canandaigua, the jewel of the Finger Lakes, has announced a number of top performers already scheduled to visit our great city and give us shows to talk about for years to come. Some of the biggest and brightest on the docket include a return visit by Kenney Chesney, who during his first visit created such a traffic jam people had to plan their arrival long before his 8 p.m. start time. Another notable is Miranda Lambert, top Country female vocalist award winner this year. In more classic rock terms, we have Steely Dan, Styx with Yes, and Lynyrd Skynyrd with the Doobie Brothers. Not to be forgotten is B.B. King coming on August 26. And, these are only some of what's been announced....! So, plan your visit now by checking Take in a concert, enjoy the many great wineries close by, taste the incredible food prepared at local restaurants, or shop the many unique storefronts on historic Main St. Why come for a night when you can stay for more? We at Bella Rose Bed and Breakfast have the kind of lodging you need to wrap this package up with a pretty bow too. You can't go wrong in this part of the world so give it a try. I assure you, whatever brings you here, you will not leave disappointed.

Live Theater in the Finger Lakes!

June 9 begins the 2011 season of Bristol Valley Theater, the Finger Lakes' premiere professional theater, featuring talent from New York City and beyond. People from all over come to enjoy a live theater production of musicals, dramas and comedy, in scenic Naples, a little town in the heart of grape country. A short and pleasant drive from Canandaigua, and Bella Rose Bed and Breakfast, Bristol Valley Theater is the perfect escape from the dull realities of every day lives and responsibilities. It is a way to transform to a different place in a different time, without leaving your seat. And, after a wonderful day of wine tasting, touring historic Sonnenberg Gardens or strolling Main Street shops, a dose of live theater is a great way to cap it all off. So, as you plan your summer's activities, consider a mini getaway to explore everything the Finger Lakes area has to offer, including a romantic stay at our B&B and the chance to take in a show. We offer it all in a package too... Don't you think it's time to break away?

A very special Finger Lakes breakfast arrives!

Well, I promised you a review of our latest new breakfast entree and here it is!  Can you say, "yummo"????  We did!  Chris and I tried this for dinner last night (who doesn't love breakfast for dinner?) and couldn't have enjoyed it more!  For those who need reminding, this is the Bacon and Leek Risotto topped with poached egg recipe that said "Try me" last week.  Our guests will just love this, and why not.....crispy bacon, tender leeks, a bit of Parmesan cheese, all combined with the creamiest risotto to touch our lips!  The levels of incredible flavors are captured in every decadent bite.  This was OMG good, and something you'll not likely get at any other breakfast table. Served with a warm buttery Italian toast or baguette and it is like heaven in a bowl!  So, we're definitely putting it on the menu for this year.......  Will you be some of the lucky souls to experience this?  We hope so!   Since we are all about breakfast at Bella Rose B&B, you definitely should not miss this!  Come taste and savor it for yourself.  You'll be glad you did!

Next up, Baby Dutch Babies...... Cute name, huh?  Stay tuned.....
